Kuki – Ilizarov apparatus – radius lengthening

A case from Dr. Tack Specialist Veterinary Center, presented to provide clear guidance on diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.

Kuki was injured in a car accident at the age of 5.7 months. Premature closure of the radius (spoke) growth joints formed a step in the elbow joint. This leads to lameness, pain and osteoarthritis development.

To restore the congruence of the elbo joint, we extended the radius by 1mm per day with a ring fixator (bone extension – distraction osteogenesis).
